1994 gave us some technological discoveries & inventions. We have written a list of the top 5 inventions that were made in the year 1994
CMOS image sensor
Invented by – Eric Fossum
Eric Fossum led the team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory that developed the CMOS active pixel sensor camera-on-a-chip, a tiny camera technology. CMOS image sensors are now commonplace in imaging. It's an image sensor with a photodetector and one or more active transistors in each pixel sensor unit cell. The CMOS sensor is a type of digital camera sensor that is commonly used in mobile phone cameras, web cameras, most current digital pocket cameras, most digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLRs), and mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILCs). By the mid-2000s, CMOS image sensors had surpassed charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensors in terms of sales.

Nokia 1011
Invented by – Nokia
The Nokia 1011 (NHE-2X5, NHE-2XN) was the first GSM phone to be mass-produced. Mobira Cityman 2000 was another name for it. The black handset had a monochrome LCD and an extensible antenna and measures 195 x 60 x 45 mm. The memory has a capacity of 99 phone numbers. It didn't yet have Nokia's signature ringtone, which was debuted in 1994. The phone used the 900 MHz GSM frequency range. The device cost around 2500 DM at the time[2] (about 1959 euros today). SMS messages could be sent and received on the phone.

Sony PlayStation
Invented by – Sony
Sony Computer Entertainment debuted the PlayStation video game console in 1994. Sony's rise to supremacy in the video game business began with the PlayStation, one of a new generation of 32-bit platforms. The PlayStation, sometimes known as the PS One, was the first console to use compact discs (CDs), signalling the video game industry's transition away from cartridges. In December 1994, the PlayStation was introduced in Japan, and in September 1995, it was released in the United States; both launches were met with critical praise and strong sales. Twisted Metal and Ridge Racer were two of the most popular games. By 2005, the PlayStation had sold 100 million units, making it the first platform to do so.

DNA computing
Invented by – Leonard Adleman
In the November 1994 Science paper, Molecular Computations of Solutions to Combinatorial Problems, USC professor Leonard Adleman presented the concept of DNA computing. Adleman demonstrated that DNA might be utilised to store data and even do massively parallel computations. Adleman encoded a classic "hard" problem (one that exhibits exponential growth with each additional input parameter) known as the Traveling Salesman Problem into strands of DNA and used biological properties of DNA to find the answer using the four bases of DNA (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine). When Adleman realised how DNA replication was eerily similar to an early theoretical computer established by Alan Turing in the 1930s, he came up with the idea of DNA computing.

Segway PT
Invented by – Dean Kamen
The Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transporter designed by Dean Kamen in 1994 and released in 2001 as the Segway HT, and later as the Segway PT, by Segway Inc. HT stands for "human transporter," while PT stands for "personal transporter." The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) is a self-balancing personal transporter scooter. The Segway employed individually computer-controlled motors and gyroscopes in each wheel to stay upright and alter direction and speed in response to the rider's body motions, based on technology developed for the iBOT. The name of the device originates from the word "segue," which means "follows without pausing."
